How club membership works: the minimum age of eighteen, the ID clubs accept, and what a club may ask or charge before you can walk in.
How do I become a member of a club?
You apply to the club itself. Most ask for proof that you are over 18, some ask for an existing member to introduce you, and all of them decide for themselves. We do not process, hold or approve any club membership.
What is the minimum age?
Eighteen. Everything South African law protects here is for adults only, and clubs apply the same line. Expect to prove your age at the door even if you were not asked to when you signed up.
What identity document is accepted?
Usually a South African ID card or green ID book, a driving licence, or a passport if you are visiting. Each club sets its own list, so check the listing or call ahead before you travel.
What do clubs charge?
Whatever they choose — some ask a joining fee, some an annual subscription, some nothing at all. We do not set, collect or take a share of any club fee. Note that a fee changes nothing about the legal position described in our legal information section.
Do clubs accept walk-in visitors?
Some do and many do not. Private venues are entitled to admit members only, and a few accept new sign-ups only on a member's introduction. Where a listing says walk-ins are welcome, that is the club's own statement.
