How do people legally get cannabis in South Africa? By growing it themselves. An adult may cultivate cannabis in a private place for their own personal consumption, and adults may pass it between themselves in private without anything of value changing hands. There is no lawful way to buy it. We do not supply cannabis and we do not publish places to buy it. Is South Africa Social Clubs free to use? Yes. Browsing, searching, the map and every club listing are free and need no account. We also sell FastTrack, which is how you buy a club's address and contact details from us — you never need it to use the directory. How do I find a club near me? Use the map or the "near me" view and we will sort clubs by distance from where you are. You can also browse by province, city or area if you would rather not share your location. What does "verified" mean on a club listing? It means the listing has passed our data-completeness checks — the details we hold are current, consistent and confirmed against the club. It is a statement about the quality of our information, not a licence, an endorsement, or any comment on whether the club operates lawfully. Why does the site ask me to confirm my age? Everything South African law protects here applies to adults only, so the site is for people aged 18 and over. The gate is a simple confirmation on your device; we do not store an identity document to show you a listing. Does South Africa Social Clubs sell cannabis? No — and we never have. We do not sell, supply, ship, broker or arrange cannabis in any form. We publish information about clubs, and that is the whole of what we do. ## Cannabis Social Clubs What is a private cannabis club in South Africa? It is a private space where adults who use cannabis meet, usually with some form of membership and house rules. There is no legal definition of one in South African law and no register of them, so the term means whatever each place has decided it means. Read every listing as a description of how that venue presents itself. Are private cannabis clubs legal in South Africa? There is no licensing or registration regime for them in South Africa, so there is no permit for a club to hold. What the law protects is private personal use and cultivation by adults; sale and dealing remain criminal offences. Every venue in this directory is independent, sets its own terms and is responsible for its own compliance — we publish what each one tells us about itself. Law stated as at 20 August 2026. How is South Africa different from Spain or Thailand? It has neither of their systems. Spanish clubs operate as members-only non-profit associations under a different legal tradition, and Thailand licenses retail dispensaries. South Africa licenses neither, and has no lawful way to buy cannabis at all. What South African law protects is private personal use and private cultivation by adults — nothing commercial. Can a club grow cannabis on my behalf? A South African court has looked at exactly this. In Haze Club v Minister of Police [2022] ZAWCHC 269 the Western Cape High Court considered a company that cultivated cannabis for its members and held that adults are not stopped from growing for themselves — only from outsourcing that right to somebody else. An appeal was lodged and then withdrawn in November 2024, so that judgment stands. Put any such arrangement to an attorney before you enter it. Can adults share cannabis with each other? In private, between adults, and with nothing of value changing hands — that is what the law protects. Supplying cannabis for any benefit is dealing under the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act, and dealing has never been decriminalised. The Cannabis for Private Purposes Act, passed but not yet in operation, defines "consideration" very widely: any compensation, gift, reward, favour or benefit. What should I expect when I visit a club? Expect a private space with its own rules: a door policy, an age check, and often a members-only sign-up before you get past reception. Some are quiet lounges, others are closer to a bar without alcohol. Every venue sets its own terms and can turn anyone away. Can I bring a friend? That is the club's decision, and many require every guest to sign up in their own name first. Ask before you arrive rather than at the door — a club that turns your friend away is applying its own rules, not ours. ## Membership & Age Verification How do I become a member of a club? You apply to the club itself. Most ask for proof that you are over 18, some ask for an existing member to introduce you, and all of them decide for themselves. Private venues are entitled to admit members only, and a few accept new sign-ups only on a member's introduction. What do I get with a FastTrack? The address and contact details of the club or clubs you picked, delivered straight to your phone and available to you for ninety days. No subscription and no commitment — what you do with the details is between you and the club. Does a FastTrack guarantee entry or membership? No. You are buying contact information from us, not access from the club. Every club decides for itself who it admits and who it accepts as a member, and we have no say in that. What does a FastTrack cost? There are three options — a single club, three clubs, or every verified club in South Africa — and the current prices are shown on our products page. You are paying us for information, and no part of it goes to a club. Which clubs can I get details for? Any verified club in the directory, and you choose which one when you buy. Clubs are independent of us and are not partners in FastTrack — we are selling you the contact details we hold, nothing more. How do I use my FastTrack? Contact the club yourself with the details we sent you — call, message or go in person, whichever that club prefers. The details stay available to you for ninety days, so there is no rush to use them on a particular day. ## Map & Search How do I search for clubs? Every club we hold a location for appears as a pin you can tap for the summary and a link to the full listing. Zoom into a city to separate venues that sit close together, and allow location access if you want the map to centre on you. Which parts of South Africa are covered? All nine provinces, with the most listings where the most clubs are — Gauteng, the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. Coverage in smaller towns depends on what has been submitted, so tell us if we are missing something near you. How current is the club information? We review listings on a rolling basis and act on corrections from members and club owners quickly. Even so, opening times and door policies change without warning, so call ahead before a long trip. ## Reviews & Community How does the rating system work? Each club carries an average of the ratings members have left, shown next to the number of reviews behind it. A high score from two reviews means far less than a middling one from fifty, which is why we always show the count. Who can leave a review? Anyone with an account, and one review per club. We ask you to write about a visit you actually made — not what you have heard. How are reviews kept honest? Reviews are tied to accounts, limited to one per club, and screened for the obvious patterns of fake praise and fake attacks. We remove reviews that break the rules; we do not remove a review simply because a club dislikes it. Can club owners respond to reviews? Yes. A verified owner can reply once to each review, publicly and under the club's name. It is the fairest way to put the other side of a story without either party editing the original. ## Legal Information Is dagga legal in South Africa? It is Act 7 of 2024, signed by the President on 28 May 2024. Its own section 8 says it comes into operation on a date fixed by the President by proclamation, and we are not aware of that proclamation having been published. Until it is, the 2018 Prince judgment rather than this Act governs private cannabis in South Africa. Anyone telling you the Act is already in force is mistaken. Law stated as at 20 August 2026. How much cannabis may I possess or grow? No amount is fixed in law today. The Act leaves the maximums to regulations, and the draft regulations published on 2 February 2026 closed for comment on 5 March 2026 without coming into force. The figures circulating from that draft are a proposal, not a limit you can rely on. The test a court applies is whether the amount was for your own personal consumption, and the State has to prove it was not. Can I buy cannabis legally in South Africa? No. The Constitutional Court expressly declined to decriminalise purchase, and dealing — selling, buying, offering for sale or supplying for any benefit — remains a criminal offence carrying a prison sentence. There is no licensed recreational retail or dispensary route anywhere in the country, whatever a shopfront claims. What did the Prince judgment actually decide? On 18 September 2018 the Constitutional Court held it unconstitutional to criminalise an adult using or possessing cannabis in private for personal consumption, or cultivating it in a private place for that purpose. It deliberately set no quantity, saying the amount is simply what is for personal consumption. It did not touch dealing, and it expressly did not decriminalise buying. Can I use cannabis in public? No. What the 2018 judgment protects is use and possession in private, and a public place is not covered. The Act that would rewrite parts of this has not come into operation, so nothing in it helps you yet. Law stated as at 20 August 2026. What do smoke shops and CBD shops actually sell? Smoking accessories and CBD products — not cannabis. Selling cannabis flower is dealing and remains a criminal offence whatever certificate is framed on the wall, and the medicines regulator has publicly warned that a cultivation or export licence does not authorise a shop to sell. CBD is available over the counter only within narrow limits and needs a prescription beyond them. On anything else a shop stocks we publish what it tells us and take no view on what it may lawfully sell. Does South Africa Social Clubs give legal advice? No. Everything here is general factual information about South African law as we understand it on 20 August 2026, and the law in this area is actively changing. You need one only to save clubs, leave a review, or buy a FastTrack pass. Everything else works signed out. How do I create an account? Choose "Create account", give an email address and a password, and confirm the link we send you. That is the whole of it — we do not ask for an identity document to open an account. Is my personal data safe? We keep what we need to run your account and nothing more, we never sell it, and we never pass it to third parties. Given what this directory covers, we treat the fact that you have an account here as sensitive in itself. Our privacy policy sets out the detail. How do I delete my account? Open your account settings and choose to delete it; we remove your profile and your saved clubs. Tell us if you want reviews you have written taken down as well, since those stay up by default without your name attached. What are saved clubs? A private shortlist of the clubs you want to come back to, visible only to you. It is the quickest way to plan a trip across several cities. ## For Club Owners How can I list my club? Send us your details through the contact page and we will set the listing up. A basic listing costs nothing. We ask only that what you tell us about your venue is accurate. How does verification work for clubs? We check that the details on the listing are complete, consistent and confirmed with you directly — location, contact, opening times, house rules. It is a data-quality badge. We do not inspect your premises and we make no statement about how you operate. How do I update my club's information? Claim the listing and edit it yourself, or email the change and we will make it. Opening times and door policy are the two that matter most to members, so tell us when those move. What appears on a club profile? Your name, area and location, contact details, opening times, the house rules and description you give us, your photographs, and the ratings and reviews members have left. Reviews are the members' and are not yours to edit. What is FastTrack, and does it involve my club? FastTrack sells a reader the address and contact details already shown on your public listing. There is nothing for you to join, nothing to administer and nothing to pay, and you keep complete control of your door and your membership decisions. Just tell us when your contact details change. Can I respond to reviews? Yes — one public reply per review, under your club's name, once you are verified as the owner. We will not delete a fair review, but tell us if one breaks the rules and we will look at it. ## Contact & Support How do I contact South Africa Social Clubs?
